Founded in 1973 by Pat Staltaro, Domestic Kitchens, Inc started in a 5,000-square-foot factory/showroom at 533 Commerce Dr in Fairfield, CT, and it is still located there today. However, the working space has expanded to 20,000 square feet, and we have more than 30 employees. To this day, the family-operated company continues to amaze people with the custom kitchen cabinet work we create.

Very happy working with Domestic for our complete kitchen renovation. Julie, the designer, offered great guidance and made valuable suggestions. They were very flexible and accommodating with changes to schedule based on various material delays on my end. Installers were fast and efficient as well as being committed to making sure we are 100% satisfied with the end result. Functionally, cabinets are robust and solid, and details are very fine.

They get a 1 because they cant het a zero. I had my kitchen cabinets made with them and 4 years later the paint is all chipped. Some doors wont close, kitchen sink fell because they did not install it properly after putting the counter top. They did not put a hook or anything to hold in place. They fixed the sink, but will NOT honor the guarantee on the cabinet job, they completely refused to retouch the lousy job they did with the paint.
They wont answer calls, they call you a trouble maker when you ask them to fix what they did wrong. Their assessment is that the heat from the dish washer causes the paint bubble and peal. Really? They are not professional, they steal your money and do the job half way.

Go with any other custom cabinet makers. From our experience remodeling our kitchen, utility room, and bathrooms, Domestic Kitchens attracts you with competitive pricing and a nice showroom, but delivers a disappointing product characterized by poor craftsmanship and numerous imperfections that cannot be fixed with "touch up" visits from the installers.
These very apparent and numerous imperfections include the following: scratches and dents on the painted over wood; squeaky doors and drawers; cabinet doors that don't shut evenly because their wood is warped; misalignment of doors and drawers relative to surrounding cabinetry; crown molding that has begun to separate from the ceiling; dents along cabinet edges; insufficient sanding and inconsistent shaping of more ornate or complex areas of our chosen cabinetry design.
I can go on and on. It felt like they banged out our design without regard for the finished product or attention to detail. Friends of ours redid their kitchen with a different company; one that did not do everything housed in the same facility, and their kitchen came out flawless. One of our workers renovating our home has since built us better custom shelves and cabinetry than what we received from Domestic Kitchen. An artist friend ours who works extensively with wood was surprised by the overall unevenness in quality and glaring flaws.
From what was delivered and installed, there just seems to be a general lack of care for attention to detail and the accumulation imperfections during the crafting process at Domestic Kitchens. Also design elements we asked for were missing from the finished product, like foot pocket space underneath our island.

We just got new cabinets from Domestic and we couldn't be happier. The style was exactly as we envisioned, and the service crew was top notch. We highly recommend using them. We did a renovation and by far the best part was the kitchen cabinetry. It is absolutely gorgeous and the team at Domestic Kitchens was fantastic. I loved that when I went in for design meetings they took me right back to the factory and I got to see real craftsmen building the entire kitchens and cabinetry. I would highly recommend them!

I have worked with Domestic Kitchens over 30 years on 7 different houses of my own, each with new kitchen and bath cabinets. DK has been great to work with, and always seems flexible to go "outside the box": i.e., they even custom-built a kitchen table (we have kept it thru 5 houses!) and an L-shaped, built-in kitchen bench to maximize space in an otherwise tight seating area.
They also have built-from-scratch to outfit the interior finishings on all my cabinets, with anything I request -- all in the original quoted price. I appreciate this approach rather than feeling that I will be nickeled-and-dimed for every request along the way. This year they/we experimented with a new contemporary hi-gloss laminate design for one house, and a Shaker-style kitchen in another.
They always return for touch-ups and door adjustments, and have been available years down the road for anything needed. And Nina's designs are more thoughtful about the nuances of a kitchen, than any architect I have hired -- she is excellent given her daily focus on making exceptional kitchens that are highly practical. There have been occasions at the height of their busy season, that I have had to follow-up an unreturned phone call with an office visit, to check in on progress on a job.
But that rolls off my back, given my satisfaction with their product and service over so many years that keeps me coming back. As a realtor, I get to see quite a few kitchens over the course of a year. Recently, I had the fun of seeing the 1st kitchen DK designed/installed for us in Westport 30 years ago. It was gratifying to see it still functional and looking current. I look forward to the next kitchen with Nina and the DK gang!

The team at Domestic Kitchens is TOP NOTCH. We just completed a major bathroom remodeling project with them. They are unsurpassed not only in the quality of their beautiful cabinetry, but also in their total coordination of design, plumbing, counters and sinks, and installation. They are the best around. Surprisingly, they were also highly price competitive with the frequently cited White's and other outlets, who simply sell you the hardware and leave you on your own with the rest. The team at Domestic never let us down once and their sub contractors were great.
