The Soap Kitchen is a mother/daughter micro business established in Old Pasadena, California in 2003. We believe that going plastic-free and back to basics with bar soaps instead of liquid is the wave of the future. All of our soaps are handmade from scratch, hand-cut, and hand-wrapped by just the two of us. By keeping our promise to use only the finest essential oils and herbs in our centuries-old soap making process, our end product has, and always will be, gentle and hydrating on the skin, healthy for the body, and never overwhelming to the nose.

I've been dealing with the soap kitchen for a long time but I fear things have gone down hill. The products are wonderful and pre Covid there was always someone who could help or advise. Now I need them and I feel left out in the cold. I foolishly ordered the wrong thing. It took many emails, no phone calls excepted, but in the end I got it sent back.
Now I'm in a daily fight for a refund as no one can find the 11kg of soap I sent back! I'm heartbroken, I feel a lovely company has gone wrong somehow my business has come to a stop while they sort this. It's getting on for a month now and I've emailed with so many different people I had better hope's from such a wonderful company I've had better service sad

If anyone is on social media you see that organic bar soaps are all the rage. This is a wonderful mother and daughter pair. They are extremely friendly and have a huge variety of scents. Their prices are pretty comparable to the advertised ones online (without a sale). Definitely consider buying here before ordering online

*edit - Updated rating. I've been kindly contacted and the issue is being rectified. Excellent customer service once aware of the issue. Thank you! I have an issue with a recent order (incorrect item recieved) despite numerous emails to enquiries and sales I have yet to receive a response after 10 days. A real shame as their products are reasonable.

Don't use as a b2b supplier. We built a range on 2 of their bases and they suddenly stopped supplying them with no warning despite taking payment. Yes this was due to THEIR suppliers appalling service but they should warn you when stock is low. We incurred thousands in costs with no compensation. Nice people although strangely protective over who suplies their bespoke packaging (kite) but really feckless and only really suitable for very small quantities for home use.

I have been buying Dali's handcrafted soaps and lip balms for several years and absolutely was sold after my first visit. The shop itself is so inviting and the gratitude expressed from Dali and her mom are one of kind. I just discovered another fabulous product, the lavender milk bath salts. It is beautiful in scent throughout the entire bath and creamy but not oily. Thank you for always delivering great products and exceptional customer service!

Cute little soap shop that is owned by a Mother and Daughter duo. I had been searching for a facial soap for my daughter that wouldn't cause her skin to be irritated. The owner personally hand picked the Tea Tree Wake Up Soap for my daughter. My daughter has been using Tea Tree Wake Up Soap for 5 months now and no irritation. Thank you Soap Kitchen.

Really pleased with my order, and customer service is brilliant. Placed an order for a selection of bath bomb making supplies for my 8 year olds birthday, but had a small panic when I received the order confirmation as due to the current crisis, orders were taking 2 weeks for dispatch. This was fine, and probably highlighted on the website too but I missed it, but really cut it fine for arrival in time for the birthday girl.
I emailed CS to ask the likelihood of it coming on time, and asking if it would be best for me to pay the additional for express shipping, to which I had a super quick reply saying that as it was a little girls birthday they'd get the order dispatched that day. True to their word I had the dispatch confirmation and my box of goodies arrived 3 days later.
Really pleased! The packaging is lovely! I love the brown paper bags the dry ingredients are in, taped closed with printed brown paper tape, and other than the polythene bags containing the ingredients inside there's no plastic at all. Makes it all feel quite special. Even the box it was shipped in is re used having contained other items. Major points from me for limiting your environment impact! As a first time customer, I will absolutely be back again after having such a great experience!

I paid for an express delivery. I was told my parcel would come today between 2:30-3:30pm, I took the day off to receive it. At 3:39pm I receive an email stating 'oh No we've missed you!' I have been in all day and have not left my house! I don't know where your driver went but he did not come to my flat nor rang my door bell. I rang the soap kitchen and all they could offer me is a refund for my express delivery. Feeling very disappointed. Can you fix this mess?

A friend recommended the soaps to me and so I placed an order for delivery. I love everything! The shampoo bar and rinse are the best I've used as far as soap bars go. The calendula face bar is lovely, and the body soap bars are luxurious. I look forward to shopping in there in person one day : In the meantime, thank you for shipping your amazing soaps!

I can't believe I always drove by this place and never noticed it before! Love that the soap here is made in house. When I was getting into soap making (I forfeited that hobby soon into it because of the steep learning curve) I was using yelp to find local soap places where they made the soap in house. There aren't that many places that do this apparently!
Anyway I love the shop. I took my son here who has eczema and the mom of the store owner showed us some good Shea butter based soaps. We got some free samples and I will be back soon to restock. Don't forget to check in on yelp to get a free travel bar!

Stumbled upon this place while exploring old town. Cute handmade soap store. Natural ingredients only. Owner was helpful and friendly. It smells so good in here! You can see the kitchen where they make the soap. It is definitely pricey though, about $10 for a bar of soap. They have all kinds of gift box options where you can pick the soaps you want to include.
I chose a gift box with two soaps and a loofah. All the soaps are on display so you can smell them. Check in on yelp for free travel size soap and they also give free soap sliver sample with purchase.

This place is amazing! I'm totally hooked on their Shampoo Bars. I love that I can support a family owned and operated business and be Zero Waste and use quality products all at the same time. Their Shampoo Bars don't dry my hair out like other Shampoo Bars I've used. Highly, highly recommend this shop.

Great little shop, with wonderful customer service! I have been using their soap for a few weeks now, and I love it. The travel size was perfect for my recent weekend getaway. It feels good knowing that using these bar soaps minimizes plastic waste, too. They officially converted me from liquid body wash to bar soap!

I love love love love this place! it's a local, natural, female-owned business that makes wonderful soaps and lip balms. I don't live in LA any longer but order their lip balms and soaps by mail i love them so much. If you do have a chance to go into the shop it smells very strongly (and i LOVE IT!) of herbs - purely delightful after an adjustment moment.

I love this place. The owner is so kind, she has so many options with fragrance (essential oils) or without. I bought her face soap and mini loofah and I'm obsessed. I've been using it for a week now and my face has never felt smoother or more hydrated. Most soap companies remove the moisturizing ingredients in order to sell you another product like lotion. But not these products. I'm obsessed and will be getting them all as gifts!

I love the Soap Kitchen! They make the most moisturizing all natural handmade olive oil soap! I especially love the essential oils that are put into it making them smell so amazing! I am a recent breast cancer survivor and went trough chemo and radiation this past year. It caused my skin to be irritated and dry and I could not find a soap to be more moisturizing than these olive oil bars!
I highly recommend them vs using your every day Dove bar which is drying! They are located in a cute shopping area and the store is so cute and smells so wonderful I could stay there all day and it would give me health benefits! : Dali and her mom are also super nice, friendly, and so knowledgeable!

I came across this tiny shop on a food walking tour of Pasadena. Food and soap? Well, I didn't question it! After all, this is one of the most unique shops in the downtown Old Pasadena corridor. Be sure to ask for their 'frequent buyer' card. If you buy gift baskets, you'll quickly fill it up and get a bonus bar of soap. Plus, with a Yelp check-in you'll get a free mini bar of soap.
For those old-school LA folks, you may recognize the shop from Huell Howser''s 'California''s Gold.' They even have a bar in honor of him. Each of their bars are free of chemicals and made with all natural ingredients (organic certified sustainable palm, and coconut oils, shea butter, essential oils). We'll be back! And not just for the holidays (when they go all out with gorgeous baskets and gift sets).

Wow, I love this soap! I was given a few bars from a friend of mine and honestly I was going to regift them. I've always used Dial soap, period. I decided to keep my Soap Kitchen soaps and now I am a convert! I'll never to back to commercial soaps again! My 58 year old skin feels so hydrated and silky. My favorite is the California Gold Bar.

I have to thank my Boss/Friend for introducing me to this fabulous place. I ran an errand for my Boss during the holidays and it was to the Soap Kitchen. I was so amazed at all the variety of scented soaps they offer and loved that they actually have the kitchen in the location. The service was amazing and so super friendly. Well, not only did I get the errand I was suppose to get but I ended up picking up several soaps for myself.
They have my favorite. Sandalwood & Pachouli. The soaps are gentle on the skin, they last for weeks and the scent stays on your body all day. Truly love this place. Thank you Boss for introducing me to the Soap Kitchen :!

For those of you who don't know, natural soap is my jam! (hint: gifts) My husband and I were walking through Old Town Pasadena and so happened to walk into The Soap Kitchen. My husband, who moaned and groaned as I dragged him inside, didn't know the power of a good soap. His Ivory using self was oblivious to all the gunk put in mass produced soaps and how your body may react to the ingredients. I, on the other hand, have to know this stuff because I have sensitive skin.
And in recent years, I've realized that I can no longer use products with parabens, sulfates, mineral oils, protroleum, and a whole list of crap used to wash and condition the skin http://www.healthywomen.org/content/blog-entry/whats-hiding-your-soap-four-toxic-ingredients-avoid. Here's where I want you to pay close attention: when I use products with those ingredients, I have major dandruff/oily hair and acne. I'm only saying this because a lot of people go vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc., but never pay attention to how those same processed ingredients are being absorbed into your body through other products, namely shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions and makeup.
And how products like soy, parabens and sulfates take your hormones on a rollercoaster ride. Meanwhile, walked in and was in L.O.V.E.! TSK is a quaint little shop that houses soaps, oils, sponges, loofahs, and salts, all prepared by the owners on site! I was immediately intrigued with their olive oil soaps (they carry two kinds of soaps: Olive Oil based and Shea Butter based).
I wondered about and finally happened to cross paths with their Black Gold https://www.thesoapkitchen.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=267&idcategory=2. Wrapped in active bamboo charcoal, it helps balance over active glands and control acne. I picked up two. I also picked up their Conusoapia https://www.thesoapkitchen.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=237&idcategory=2 made with cornmeal and turmeric. Feels amazing on your body!
Out the corner of my eye, I could see my husband approaching, bubbling with enthusiasm about the products in his hands. I smiled, looked over and agreed that the products looked awesome (no I told you so on my lips). Got to the register and guess what?!? Free mini soap and loofah with a check-in! Tha'ts what I call winning. The owner (Dali) also told me they were famous for lip balm. Yes, I bought that too. Feels amazing during blistery cold seasons. Tips: 1.
Go now! 2. Read up on natural beauty products (you too men!) 3. Make sure you check-in! There may still be a free offer 4. Buy both Olive Oil and Shea Butter products to see which one you like most 5. Find them online:https://www.thesoapkitchen.com/store/pc/home.asp

I found the business after watching an episode of local public television KCET program California's Gold hosted by the now late Huell Howser. My personal skin type is naturally dry and heavy detergent commercial soaps irritate that condition. I am extremely happy with the products obtained from the Soap Kitchen. They are invigorating, effective and the natural products used in the making smell amazing, not the usual mass market artificial.
Do note that everything in the store is hand made which is obvious when you unwrap the product. Rustic handcraft in appearance but like a high end spa product in effectiveness. Highly recommended is the shampoo bar: just three or four swipes on your wet scalp yield a rich lather that will remove any residue buildup you may have. Soap options include shea butter and different exfoliates make for interesting combinations. Here's a couple of tips to make your first visit easier: The store is small, about the size of a large walk-in closet.
Visit their informative website and shop the product line and write down some notes. The store is easily accessed from the 210 Freeway and is located just north of Colorado. Parking can be tight in the area. If you don't want to pay for a flat rate lot, drive a couple of short blocks south where you'll see curbside meters ($1.25 per hour, quarters only) and take the easy stroll back to the store. Also, if you happen to catch the KCET repeat of the TV show, it is worth your time to see the owners' soap making process and the care that goes into it.
Once you get familiar with the product line mail order service is nice. For the record, I am not the usual metro cosmetics type of guy. I work blue collar railroad, outside in all weather in a dusty grease and oil environment. I am not the type of person that walks into Ulta, Sephora or the handbag department at Nordstrom. That being said, I really like this business and know that you will also. Highly recommended.
