Storage- The type of storage you add to your island should be intentional. For instance, if you are chopping vegetables you will want cutlery dividers or a knife block pullout for knives, tray dividers for cutting boards, and a waste basket or compost bin for scraps. If you plan to use the island for baking, a canister pullout will keep flour, sugar and other dry ingredients well organized. If your island is simply to gather around for entertaining you may want wine cubbies for bottles and a few peg drawers for glasses.
Indianapolis, much like the rest of the country, is seeing a boom in remodeling and new construction jobs. With such a high demand on contractors and construction materials the timeline for these jobs continues to get longer. Everyday we are planning projects a little further into the future. Custom cabinetry, which used to take six to ten weeks, now has a lead time of four to six months.
Think ahead about how the space will be used for large gatherings. Entertaining changes the way we use our kitchens. It is different from our everyday cooking for our immediate family. It is important to think about your entertaining style and how you want traffic to move through the space while entertaining.
When trying to analyze trends in design sometimes it is more difficult to find a clear pattern. If you were to ask many of our manufacturers now what they are seeing the most of, their answer would be personalization. People are asking for cabinets more unique to their own personal style or to match them to existing cabinets they already have and love.

We down-sized to a small house around retirement because we planned to travel in our RV for many months of the year. Having some talent for such things, I designed our own kitchen, then presented it to Nancy Barbee at Cabinetry Ideas for her approval and a quote. After talking with us and gaining an understanding of what our needs were, how we entertain, etc, she said she didn't think we'd be happy with the plan I had designed.
Instead she recommended a rather drastic step of extending a wall by about 18 out in to our garage area, which would essentially gain us another entire wall of usable space. We said absolutely not! Well, smart lady that Nancy was, she returned with a detailed plan and quote for BOTH plans.a variation of my plan and her plan with the extension into the garage.
Once we saw how much more her plan afforded us, there was no turning back. We proceeded with it, and there isn't a day goes by that I don't thank her wisdom in this decision. I actually love this kitchen design more than I did my huge kitchen at our old house. It's design-friendly and extremely functional, and also a perfect kitchen for 2 people to work side by side.
I have nothing but praise for Nancy Barbee at Cabinetry Ideas. The range and quality of their products is extensive, and they are knowledgeable about every aspect of kitchen design.

Nancy Barbee is magic! she can visit with a customer and look at a space and turn that space in the to perfect place. It is beautiful! Nancy designed a small bathroom and it is perfect. Then she transformed our kitchen then our laundry area. All are awesome with her magic touch! Highly recommend Cabintry Ideas
