Yes, you do deserve a fine tool! I am a full-time maker of hand made high carbon steel Western and Asian inspired kitchen knives. Most of my time is spent on commission work, but when I have time, I make kitchen knives to my own designs and techniques, and list them on my kitchen knives in stock page. A bolster is between the blade and the handle wood and protects the handle wood from absorbing water from the end grain of the handle wood. Water will be soaked up like a sponge without protection. I use metal - brass, copper, stainless. I use either brass or copper bolsters (3/4" x 3/8"), which are pinned/rivets and glued onto the blade steel.

The knife has not yet arrived, but I've been impressed by the professional yet convivial manner that Michael conducts business. He asked me several questions to customize my knife and quickly corrected an incorrect shipping address. Looking forward to giving 5 stars to the knife itself. Update 1. A week after ordering my knife has arrived. Betsy, from Wildfire, emailed me to let me know the package was at my door. The knife is beautiful, clean, and sleek. See photos. Can't wait to use.
