I have been dealing with Huber Lumber for the about 15 years. Here's why. Family owned and operated, by people who care about each other, their business and their customers. Top quality materials. Patient and knowledgeable advice about all aspects of lumber construction projects. They will measure and cut your order to size for a very nominal fee and also deliver larger orders very inexpensively. A much more enjoyable and productive experience than messing around with the big box stores. Highly recommended for all your project and building needs.

This place is great. They have a great selection and have some of the best prices I could find. The staff is super helpful and efficient. They were very accommodating and easy to work with. I have to particularly recommend Randy. He was great. He called all his suppliers to find exactly what I needed. Was very upfront on cost and time lines of when he would get his shipments. It's a great little place. You won't be disappointed.

What a nice little gem. To find a lumber yard like this inside of a city area makes it extremely convenient and seeing that this has been a service being provided for quite some time it has all the smells, sawdust and experience that one would need. Come in here for a large job and small jobs you won't be disappointed.

Shopped here twice, the first time I had a good experience, the second time was a different story. First purchase was a board used for outdoor signs and sometimes on boats. Second purchase I thought was the same thing but told them it looked different. They did not have a full sheet so they ordered me a sheet ($120.86 a sheet). I came back to pick it up and I told them it looked different than the original board I purchased.
They did not look up my previous purchase or try to explain anything. So I purchased the board and took it home. It was not the same, but I figured i could use it anyway to ave the trip and time back to the store. over the winter it was stored inside but still got a little water on it and the board started to peel a part in some places ( wish I would have just took it back when it was different).
I called had a couple conversations with Judy Huber, sent her pictures. I thought she she was going to find my invoice and give me a call back. After about 3 or 4 weeks I called back and they said my board was in. I dint want another board since I purchased a different type of board while waiting on Judy to call me back. I took it back to the store and was told by and they said they would only do an exchange.
I tried to talk with Judy and she called me a liar about what I said and even continued to call me a liar when I said it was probably a miscommunication Then Mr. Huber came out (I think the Owner not sure). We had the same discussion, said he didn't appreciate me yelling at his staff, I said she started yelling first and called me a liar when I said it was just a communication.
He told me the only thing he would do is a swap or nothing. So I did the swap and when he pulled the board out of my truck he didn't ask for any help, nor did he drop the tail gate and just yanked on it. As it fell to the my bumper with a loud crash, it also scratched the tailgate. showed him the the scratches and his reaction was really, I don't see anything.
I said I figured as much and stated why would you just pull it out of the truck, and left. Not sure why any business owner or employee would pull a board of a customers truck and let it slam onto the bumper and scratch the tailgate. It is much easier to lower the tailgate and have no paint of the vehicle exposed to the moving board. Terrible customer service, I will never be back and I will never recommend them to any one I know.

The people at Huber Lumber were just great. I had a small project to replace some cedar trim pieces on my home and they took a lot of time to discuss the best material, how to match the existing and even the best way to get a lasting finish. There is no way I would get that kind of service at the big orange or blue box stores. I highly recommend them for any type of lumber or millwork needs.

After getting the run around from the other local lumber company's my father recommended I visit Huber lumber. I'm glad to report that there are still small "mom and pop" owned shops that value their customers. Excellent customer service followed by fair prices make this a spot well worth your time and money. Will certainly be back.

LOVED the store. The experience was a combination of old time attentive service mixed with knowledge and product of real time world. The staff is very knowledgeable about what products are right for you, your home and the area. And when was the last time a salesperson tried to SAVE you money let alone not try to up sell you? These people know what they are doing. Try them you will be happy.

I am re-finishing my floating patio and I am glad I came across Huber Lumber on the internet during my preliminary search for a lumber supplier. I am extremely novice and I had a ton of questions for Dave & Randy and they both were more than generous with their time and knowledge. Randy spent a good amount of time on the phone with me and even sent me a sketch of a similar project he was working on that gave me confidence to finish my project. This was one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. I highly recommend them.

Love these guys. Randy is the best, very helpful. So I had a fairly big deck project that was DIY. My old deck was pressure treated and 25 years old, so it needed to be replaced. After research online, I decided on TimberTech for the decking and Duralife for the railings. Huber carries both products and even had a lot of what I needed in stock. They delivered the materials in a timely fashion when they said they would be there, and unloaded it where I wanted.
I ordered one rail set too many and took it back. They refunded my money with no problems. The materials were pricey, but you get what you pay for. I have a new deck that looks great with a 25 year warranty against staining and fading. I can now walk on the deck barefoot and sit comfortably to watch all of the wildlife. Woo-hoo!

Love this place. It's an old school hardware store / lumber yard with friendly knowledgeable employees. I love to support locally owned businesses, so, it was a no-brainer to try out Huber on the recommendation of our neighbor last year. I'm glad we heeded the advice. We didn't have a big project--just some wood and screws to build a raised veggie garden bed.
We mostly knew what we wanted to get, but the few questions we had were answered thoroughly without trying to up-sell us on anything we didn't need. In fact, they let us know how we could save money. Obviously, after that first experience, we had to go back this year for the materials to build a second box. SAME GREAT SERVICE. Always friendly and chatty without being either too businesslike or so casual you can't get out of there in a reasonable time. Perfect. I'd recommend Huber to anyone.
Only four stars this time because, while they normally call out to the guys in the yard to meet us with the order slip, they sent us out to find them ourselves. Some guys were busy with another customer, so it wasn't the most comfortable situation to figure out the right person to hand our paperwork to or to interrupt others with our needs. Overall, though, it was a really minor issue. In all other ways, this was a five-star experience.

I'm a new homeowner, and I'm trying to do small projects in my house on my own as a part-time hobby. I want to put large open shelves in my kitchen, and someone pointed me in the direction of Huber in Norwood. The people that worked here were very friendly, and were able to help me find a cost-effective solution for the thick oak shelf that I was looking for (we decided to use an oak stair tread, and cut it down to size).
They listened to me, and offered me a few pointers for installation. We were in and out quickly. The price was maybe $10 higher than I thought it was going to be, but I'm very pleased with the product. Much higher quality than you will get at a big box store. Definitely check this place out if you're doing any home projects.

Awesome place - it looks and runs the way a lumber yard / hardware store should be. I had a weird/custom piece of wood that I needed to complete a project - no other store around has it. I walked in and one of the Huber's (owner) took a look at the sample I brought in, knew exactly what it was, brought me to what I needed and I was out the door in minutes.
Really cool as I didn't have to track someone down in a mega warehouse. Found out while talking with Randy at the desk this is still family owned with 2nd and 3rd generation still running the place. Really affordable too for the custom amount of stuff they have. If you have an older house, this place is a go-to place for everything you need lumber-wise.

I am working on constructing a desk. I called asking for prices for the materials I need. The person I spoke with didn't understand what I was talking about. To be fair, I am no expert on wood materials but he didn't try to be helpful. He finally gave me an answer I could work with. I asked if they could cut the wood for me there, and what would be the additional cost.
Of all of his rumbling, I thought I understood that it depends on what I need him to cut and the labor it would go into it. To clarify, I asked him if that was the case, and he said to me "I can't help you" and hung up on me. Definitely, a terrible customer experience.

Definately the best hardware/lumber yard in the area.doesn't serve their "buddies" first and ignore others like most supply places! Huber gives great assistance in planning your current or future projects and has resources for those of us who own older homes.including parts you will not find elsewhere. I'm very pleased with the service I have received. Deano in Arlington Heights

What a great place and professionals! We looked at the big box stores for mirror molding and they never heard of it. Walla, there is such a thing and it can be matched to the cabinet colors. Finding Huber Lumber was like speaking to people on a different planet who understood everything we were trying to do. So, several projects later, it's one of the best places we were lucky to find! Amazing service and knowledge.

You might pay a little extra to get stuff here, but they are very knowledgeable about construction. Its not like going into Lowes or Home Depot where you may or may not be able to find someone who has a clue. And some things are actually less expensive here than at Lowes. They have a decent lumberyard and can order many specialty items. We have purchased several thousand dollars worth of materials from them for different projects and have been very satisfied.

I called to find out pricing on some lumber with only a rough idea of what I was looking for, and received excellent customer service. The woman who answered (after closing hours as well) was extremely helpful, and helped figure out what I was looking for at a cheap price. I haven't bought anything yet, but so far I have a good impression of the place.

If you do any home improvement at all, you soon realize the lumber available at most big box stores is absolute garbage. You won't find anything like that here. Huber sells pine boards that are actually straight and clear. They also custom mill to any size you need, and if you have an old house with pine floor boards exactly 1 inch thick, then you will love them as much as me.
